What is a slow food cycle? Lori found out for herself last Sunday, when she took her bike and her appetite for locally grown food to Pemberton, to join nearly 4000 participants in this yearly event.
According to the website, the Pemberton slow food cycle is “good for your carbon credits” and “a sensory smorgasbord.” If you’ve never been cycling in Pemberton, consider doing so, the roads are long, flat and fairly well-paved, perfect for families. The slow food cycle route is 25 kilometers each way, but you’re under no obligation to complete the route. And it’s free to register!
Organizers Anna Helmer and Nikki Vankirk launched the slow food cycle in 2005 as a way of educating the public on the importance of farmland and eating locally. To learn more about the slow food movement, visit the Slow Food International website.
